SELF-DRIVE SAFARI - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This being their habitat, we need to respect the privacy of the wildlife. The animals are wild and can be unpredictable If you’re unsure of wildlife behavior then we recommend taking a guided game drive or two before you get behind the wheel. This will give you a feel for what the animals may do, and build your confidence for what to expect when your driving yourself around.

  1. SPEED: Please observe the maximum speed limit (50KPH) and always watch out for wildlife in the road such as Tortoises. Never drive off-road, this severely damages the habitat. Keep to granted roads and cut tracks. When viewing wildlife keep to a minimum distance of 25 meters and pull to the side of the road so as to allow others to pass.
  2. DO NOT: Do not under any circumstances exit your vehicle. Stay in your vehicle at all times, except at designated picnic or walking areas. Sitting on top of vehicles during game viewing is strictly prohibited.
  3. WILDLIFE: Respect the privacy of the wildlife, this is their habitat. Beware of the animals, they are wild and can be unpredictable. Don’t crowd the animals or make sudden noises or movements. When there are more than five vehicles waiting to see an animal the viewing time is restricted to 10 minutes. Vehicles waiting to see the sighting must wait at a distance of 100 meters. Don’t feed the animals, it upsets their diet and leads to human dependence. Keep quiet, noise disturbs the wildlife and may antagonize your fellow visitors.
  4. PHOTOGRAPHY: Respect the cultural heritage of Kenya, never take pictures of the local people or their habitat without asking their permission, respect the cultural traditions of Kenya and always dress with decorum. Most importantly while out on a Self Drive Safari, do not forget to take extra memory cards and batteries along.
  5. MAPS: Most importantly while out on a Self Drive Safari, make sure that you have a Map.
DON’T ASSUME YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE CELL RECEPTION IN ALL AREAS OF THE PARK.
  6. GATE TIMES: Leave before dusk, visitors must vacate the Park between 6.30pm and 6.00am unless they are staying inside overnight in which case you should be in your camp by 6.45pm.
  7. PARK REGULATIONS: Use only designated entry/exit gates. Each park has regulations specific to the particular park. Please ensure to review each of the Park’s rules and regulations in preparation for your safari.

NOTE: ENTRY TO THE PARK IS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
